Helen was invited by the BBC Concert Orchestra and Dutton Epoch in July this year to record the entire viola and orchestra repertoire by Gordon Jacob. This disc will include concerto No.1 and No.2, the Concertpiece and the Three Pieces for viola and piano arranged for orchestra by Graham Parlett. All the works have never been recorded before. The second concerto was written for the Tertis Competition in 1980 and performed by then winner, Paul Neubauer. All extremely virtuosic works with many passages in octaves and double stops, there are some exciting dramatic movements where the orchestra writing really shines with some extraordinarily beautiful melodies for the viola soloist. Reminiscent of Elgar, Holst and Vaughn Williams on a big scale, there are fantasy moments much like the Harry Potter soundtrack! This recording is also due to be released early next year.
